I make fun of Marina and Nick because I love them like siblings--remember that when you read the captions! ;o)

Don't know if I should put this here or start a new thing on the concerts page. . . well, apparently I've already decided.

Here's the part of my blog about the concert--you don't want to hear about that long day. . .

Finally got to the Hollywood/Highland complex--long day, considering I didn’t have any shoots--and went into Oakley, where my boots were born--or at least grew up--and got a very nice and good-natured run-around about a place to get them repaired, so fuck ‘em. Then right on to the Renaissance Hotel or whatever it’s called behind the complex for the latest Marina V (http://www.myspace.com/marinav) concert--how many does that make? Right there to the right of the entrance was a bunch of tables and chairs with the one and only Nick Baker on guitar, so I didn’t have to ask where the show was this time. I plunked myself right in front of Nick and the piano and took out the camera to check out the sights and the lighting, both of which sucked. Off to the other side of the lobby was a sign in front of the stairs saying “NBA Offices--mezzanine.” And yeah, the game was on the bar’s big screen.
I always notice things I shouldn’t, like the fact the flush on the toilet was a pressy button right on the middle column, on the little sign with the stick figure. Shoulda made it a big thumb.
Okay, luckily Marina starts the 5-act show, and starts with my usta-be favorite. . . but not before the mics went out!
1 Underneath Your Sky
“About finding someone who makes you complete.” Though she smiled really big, making it seem like she was joking.
2 Killing My Dream
“I came to the US when I was 15 and fell in love with the country, and this boy. Son of a bitch broke my heart, but at least I got a song out of it.” Mics go out again at the chorus, and it’s always fun watching a Marina freakout. Then “We’re back, second verse!. . . Can we get someone to stand by the breaker?”
3 Pesnya O Tebe
She talked about the movie this song is in, all the shooting and crashing cars, “but there’s one sweet scene in a coffee shop, and this is where the song is!” I love how the song kicks up at the second verse, even without drums. And she still looks surprised and smiles when Nick comes over for the “third hand.”
4 Here There Everywhere
Got a photo of her Beatles purse, though she’s taken off the crazy apples.
5 Sunshine Guaranteed
“Happiest song ever written! . . and it’s by me!” Something about Graham Nash and guitars, but I don’t remember.
After the usual great job/see yas, I escaped the place through the revolving doors rather than the automatic sliders, which was a mistake; damn, those things are heavy! And not nearly as much fun as I remember them being as a kid. . . or teen. . . or college student.

Is it just me or does anyone else find themselves wanting to sing the choirs from the Monkees Daydream Believer while listening to Sunshine Guaranteed?

Cheer up, sleepy jean.
Oh, what can it mean.
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

Hey, just a thought. ;)

At Sunday's show, Marina was talking about how "Sunshine Guaranteed" was inspired by 60s bands like the Beatles and others she mentioned. . . then Nick said "The Monkees," which made the crowd laugh and flustered Marina enough to call him a bad name in front of kids. ;o)

I’m glad it was Nick she called a bad name, instead of the dumb mutt.... I think I’ll just slink away to a dark corner for awhile. :(

Don't whimper like a kicked pup, dude. She was mad because he broke her mojo, interrupted her and made her lose her train of thought. I just thought it was funny that Nick mentioned the exact same thing you did. . . maybe he read your post.
