I was just typing up my favorite Russian dessert recipe for one of my friends and then I thought - you guys might like to make this dessert this holiday season! I've been making it since I was 11 years old (my piano teacher gave me the recipe), and I absolutely love it!!!

Let me know if anyone makes it!!

Anthill – muraveinik
Recipe from Marina

ingredients:
200 grams of softened butter
1 egg
100 grams of sour cream
1 table spoon of sugar
½ tea spoon of baking soda
4 cups of flour
1 can of boiled sweetened condensed milk
2-3 tbsps of poppy seeds

Boil a can (yes, the whole can – while in the can) of sweetened condensed milk (make sure it’s entirely covered by water, add more water as it boils off) for 2 hrs. While it’s boiling, prepare the dough.

Mix together 200 grams of softened butter, 1 egg, 100 grams of sour cream, 1 table spoon of sugar and ½ tea spoon of baking soda. Then stir the mix with 4 cups of flour. The dough texture should be kind of in clumps, and a little flaky. If it appears more “wet” than “dry”, add a little more flour.
I usually then run the dough through the little meat grinder (to get those long strands of dough – kind of like ground beef – it looks cool and also prevents the dough from sticking together in clumps while baking). But you can also just throw the dough in pieces on the slightly greased baking dish and bake it at 350F for about 20-30 mins (the dough should look dark yellow/light brown). After about 15 mins of baking, use the spatula and turn the dough over to break it up a little (so it’s in smaller pieces) and bake until done.
Let the dough cool.

Mix 100 grams of butter with the sweetened condensed milk (after boiling the can for 2 hrs, let it cool for about 30 mins, and while it’s still somewhat warm, open it).
Mix with the baked dough (with a big spoon or with your hands).
Then wet your hands with cold water, and shape the dessert in the form of anthill on a serving plate. Then sprinkle with poppy seeds. Let cool for at least 30 mins in the fridge or freezer, and serve! Voila!

Uh-Oh, I need a conversion chart...lol

So, is 200 grams of butter about 1 cup?

Would definitely love to try this! Thanks for the recipe Marina:).

gretskii oreh = walnut :)

ya ego bol'she lyublyu bez orehov :)

p.s. for everyone reading english - there is option of adding a few walnuts... i personally prefer it without them (although I love walnuts), as it is pretty damn rich already...
