It's the little things that make this life better, right? It's amazing sometimes how a small gesture can make your day a better day.
Today a person in a giant Hummer waived me in (in my Prius) to go first. I thought that was the sweetest & most unusual thing (primarily b/c it was a Hummer!!)!
Anything cool happened to you guys lately?
Hugs to all of you,

Check out what I saw in the paper the other day. I normally don't care much for pet stories being passed on as news, but this, this just made my day!!! smile.gif Very sweet.
Firefighter Saves Cat by Performing Mouth-To-Mouth Resuscitation After House FireThe
Associated Press WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. Oct 22, 2007 (AP)
A southern Illinois firefighter is proof that saving lives doesn't just involve people.
Firefighter Dave Chambers helped rescue several animals during a house fire last week, including a kitten that wasn't breathing when it was carried out of the home.
Chambers performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the cat. He said the cat came out of it and, perhaps as a show of gratitude, jumped on his lap and started purring.
It's not the first time Chambers has done such a thing. Nearly a year ago, he was recognized for doing rescue breathing on a dog.

While in Jamaica, one local man just gave us a ride in his car for free (people in Jamaica are very poor, and we offered him a little bit of money, but he said - No, consider this a welcome gift to Jamaica). It was very, very nice.

Recently, at the grocery store, on separate occasions, people have let me cut in front of them when they saw I had less items than they did. Also,a lady grabbed my milk for me when she saw I was struggling to hold on to my items, as I didn't have a basket.

Last month in my newsletter I mentioned that I had lost my favorite necklace which I bought in Paris for only 10 euros - but it was very cute & I wore it every day. The next day I got an email from a very sweet person who offered to make me a new, custom-made necklace - with my signature flower on it!! I got it in the mail last week, and it's absolutely wonderful. I simply can't believe how nice it was of Tim (the owner of this fine-crafted jewelry company) to do this. I'm just blown away!!

I saw this thread and new I had to post my story....
It was Thanksgiving week in 2008 and my ex (was b/f at the time) were heading home to California from Colorado where we had just visited some friends.
We decided to leave Sat night at 11pm, since we couldn't sleep and figured we'd get an early start on the long drive. It had snowed a few times during the week and as we were heading out there were a few flakes coming down, nothing too bad.
However, a few hours into the drive it started really snowing hard I couldn't even see the road. I own an CRV, but I got the car when I lived in FL, so I only have front wheel drive as I had no need for all wheel drive. Nor, did we even think of buying snow chains, so as a result we started to skid. We were on a bridge, it was incredibly scary. I pulled over but unfortunately pulled into a bank of snow and we got stuck. I got out of the car with the top hood of my cooler to use as a shovel and hoped to free the car. About 20 minutes went by and no luck, still stuck. Because of the angle of our car and the heavy snowfall combined with the dark I was so afraid someone was going to hit our car. At that time of night (now about 2am) it was mostly big rigs that were on the road, which just made it even scarier. However, a couple pulled in front of us in a huge pickup truck. They were a couple probably in their mid 30's and were sooooo nice.
They helped pull us out of the snow bank and then even followed behind us to make sure we were ok. But thats not all, they then pulled up beside us and asked if they would like the one of them to drive my car for us since it was getting to a really icy part of the road. We agreed and pulled over, however we got stuck AGAIN. This time it took them, a guy in a big rig, and another gentleman to help get us out.
But thats not all they did, they then said the roads were closed and there was no way we were going to be able to get home. They offered for us to stay with them until the roads cleared. We were speechless and just amazed at these strangers kindness. The guy got in my car and drove it to a rest stop, since their place was up a big hill there was no way my car would make it up. They then drove us to their place, which turns out they were staying at a mountain resort. They had some friends there, 2 guys, waiting for them to get home. We get to their place and enter their home, and the 2 friends who had just met us also welcomed us with such kindness. They gave us a beer and allowed us to take one of their rooms and they would share the kids room because there were bunk beds. So we got to stay in this beautiful mountain resort in a king size bed with wonderful people.
We ended up having to stay there for 2 days because the roads were closed, but the couple and their friends couldnt have been more hospitable. They allowed us to stay in their home while they went out snowboarding with no problems with leaving us in their place alone.
One of their friends drove us to a auto store so we could buy snow chains. And on Monday morning they all were headed back home, so we too had to go. But at 4am ALL of them drove to my car and helped put on the snow chains, never asking for anything in return. It was a Thanksgiving I will never forget.
Sorry it is so long but it was an amazing adventure and helps restore any doubts about human kindness. I think I figured how to include some pictures of my car in the snow, kinda give you and idea of how bad it was.

AthenaEve, great story. As someone who has moved from So Cal to northern New Mexico I find it interesting how people up here are willing to help strangers. Maybe it is because at one time they or a family member has needed help or they know that someday they maybe the one needing help. We have a lot of people up hear who live on the edge, no electricity, no gas and sometimes no running water. So they depend on friend and neighbors when the snow piles up and roads are closed. Although I have to admit your rescuers went way out of their way to make sure you were safe and comfortable.
I think it's an old Jewish proverb that says, be kind to every person because you never know who is going to be one of God’s angels.

Today after taking my sister to her radiation treatment in Santa Fe, we stopped at Trader Joe’s before heading back up to Taos. Normally I like shopping at a Trader Joe’s, but for some strange reason I always find myself getting agitated and annoyed at this store. I don’t know what it is, but every time we stop I find that all I want to do is get out of there. I know a good friend of mine would say that for some reason I picking up on the negative energy inside the store.
For the past few months as we pass the Dunkin Donuts down the street from Trader Joe’s, my sister has been saying she wanted to stop. So after leaving Trader Joe’s today we stopped to get a couple donuts. There were a couple of women getting a couple dozen donuts as we walked in. And as we were being helped one of the women asked me if I drank coffee. I thought it was a strange question and I must have looked a little confused by her question. So she explained that with their donuts they got a free cup of coffee and since neither of them drank coffee they wanted to know if I would like a cup. I said yes and after thanking them my mood immediately changed. Just the simple gesture of offering me a cup of coffee was enough to make me realize that whatever it was that was bothering me was now really irrelevant. I don’t know if the two women being Native America had anything to do with what had happened, but being somewhat of a romantic I like to think that our chance meeting wasn’t an accident.
Sometimes we forget that just a simple gesture of kindness can have an effect on someone’s day. It can be something as simple as holding a door open for someone without any expiations of a thank you or even a quick smile can help someone who is having a bad day. :)

Got to return the favor this morning, I was in the market and the guy in front of me was short 12 cents. As he stood there looking between the cashier and his purchase, I handed him the change. I don’t know if made him feel better about his day, it did make me feel like my day was starting out on the right foot. :D :D :D
