Okay guys. If you had a choice as to which song would be Marina's first single / music video, which would it be? Think which song would sound perfect on the radio. Also, think of people who have never heard Marina's music, which song would be a perfect introduction? Thank you for your time! You all rock!

I voted for a particular song (which I won't say until the poll is over), but in addition to the song I voted for, I think "Guardian Angel" and "Killing My Dream" would be great material for a music video. (And "Something of My Own," of course--yes, okay, I think I've made my love of this song known--but I'm sure the point of the video would be to promote the NEW album, so...I'll shut up now.

p.s.
"Think which song would sound perfect on the radio.
Also, think of people who have never heard Marina's music, which song would be a perfect introduction?"
The reason I chose the songs I did was with those two factors in mind. I'm probably not articulating this well, but, i.e., with "Something Of My Own" and "I'll Be Alright"---those two in particular come to mind-there's a dramatic build-up, a crescendo that grabs and excites you that I think would be particularly engaging and will sustain in memory if only HEARING it on the radio (a comparison that comes to mind, albeit very different musically, is Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody") while, at the same time, could be expressed in an interestingly artistic, dynamic and arresting way visually.

Ocean. The effects, the photography, Marina playing with the ocean breeze blowing. Possiblities are endless. Could make for quite the video. Plus it was the song that got me hooked way back at Kulaks. If there were a B side, I would have to say, yes Marina, you know, " Never Again". IT ROCKS!!!!!! That would be a killer combo.

I strongly feel that Something Of My Own needs to be the first song to hit the airwaves. It is definately the strongest, most radio-friendly song and I think it will bring Marina a lot of recognition. I heard it playing on the music system at Borders the first time I saw Marina and it totally grabbed my attention. I said, "I love this! Who is it?" Nick was nearby and said, "It's Marina smile.gif " It sounds so polished. It's still my favorite.

Wow, Kristi. That was so well said. And so succinct. It took me 400 words to say what you said in 70. tongue.gif I couldn't agree with you more. I just didn't know if the focus of the poll was which song from "Simple Magic," specifically.
I vote for Ghost Wandering This Earth (my favorite off of Simple Magic) as the first single! -Vu

I voted for "I'll Be Alright" because it's catchy, really awesome sounding, and would probably catch a radio audience really well ^.^ but then again, so would all of her songs, it's too hard to choose :( hehe

So am I the first (the only) to choose UNDERNEATH YOUR SKY? I do think Something of my Own would be a great single, but I think for mass consumption, UYS beats it out a bit for general greater acceptance. It has a catchy chorus and melody, easy to comprehend lyrics, universal theme and I hate to describe it this way, but it's slightly more POP-like than some of her other tunes for the general radio audience (not that I consider it pop). It's not necessarily my favorite song, but I think it would be a great single. I have #2, 3 and 4 choices, too, though if you're interested! tongue.gif
Ok, and I love the song. ;)

I would have to agree that Underneath Your Sky would be the best choice. Especially, (and you know you'll have to do this after reading my post), if they add a bit of violin to sections of it. I mentioned it to Marina at Borders in Vegas and she said that she has someone play cello in L.A. but I'm going to stand firm with my violin epiphany. You'd have to listen to the song again to get a feel for where some vibrating gut-renching violin wouuld be perfect, but if you do listen and imagine I think you'll agree. I know I agree, but hey, it's my idea. I kind of have to.

It's gotta be "Underneath Your Sky." Instant radio-ready song. Catchy hook that you can immediately sing along to on the first listen. By the second time you hear it you're singing it to yourself the next day.
Marina, of course, has lots of great emotional and beautiful songs, but if we're talking about something that is going to have commercial, broad appeal to attract zillions to hear all that, this is the one. In my own humble opinion, of course!
And for video, it has plenty of imagery possibilities. It's dramatic (contrast in mood and dynamics from verse to chorus). It's a positive song, which leaves everyone with a good feeling. Lots to work with there.

I say "In My Head". It's a super great song that's catchy and I believe it's something that the general public would like.

I voted for "I'll Be Alright" which I also think would catch an audience very well.
As for video, I think "Ocean" would be a great fit for a music video.
Thanks so much for the thoughts guys! Please keep them coming. It's great and very important to hear your feedback! smile.gif :D ;) tongue.gif

I think all of your suggestions are great. There are so many of Marina's and Nick's song that would be great on video. I think In My Head has the energy that I think would make a great video and attract alot of new fans.

I can't belive that I missed the voteing.
Because I couldn't make up my mind which song,I waited. But I knew I had until 12:00 AM on the first. So I tried at 11:00 here, thinking I would having plenty of time, seeing though we are an hour ahead of LA. I guess it was 12:00 eastern time(oops),so when I did tried, it was already closed. I guess it wouldn't have made much difference, because my choice would have been either "Simple Magick" or "Make This Minute Last". Well I know that what ever song Marina and Nick choose it will make a great video.
