I just can't help it. When you're driving all day to or from a show and then see a road sign with a street/town name that isn't your typical Washington St or Main Rd, it can keep you laughing for hours...
Here is my list of recent encounters. Since I have very short memory, I started with my Sacramento trip 3 weeks ago.
Please feel free to add names YOU have seen, okay?? smile.gif
hugs,
Marina smile.gif

during my Sacramento trip 3 weeks ago:

Manlove Ave
Rough & Ready Island

during my Arizona trip last week:

Bumble Bee Crown King
Horsethief Basin
Sore Finger Rd
Bloody Basin Rd
Gen Crook Tr
Gun Fury Rd
Skunk Creek
Holy Moses Wash

Those are classics! Sore Finger Road??

I love odd town names. I'd really like to know what inspired the names Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse, Pennsylvania.

I love weird and funny street names, too! But I can't remember any! My other favorite quirk is coming across businesses that can't spell what it is they do--i.e., there's a florist in Glendale, CA that always has a sign out front advertising their fresh "bokays." And a convenience store that was undergoing reconstruction and had a sign "pardon our inconvenients"! i have pics of a few. i'll try to find some funky street names! fun topic. smile.gif

haha!!! Susan, funny!!! smile.gif Speaking of businesses, I have one!!! smile.gif I was in Payson, Arizona a few weeks ago...I was driving out to a place called Christopher Creek...When I noticed a sign that said Adult Cabaret......But, the sign had a COW on top of it!!! hehe smile.gif I've gotta get a picture of it! My parents have a cabin up there. I live in Arizona... If I remember right, there is a town by the name of: Why, Arizona. There is also a location called Jack Ass Acres in the New River area. There is also a place called Punkin Center. There is also: Dead Man Wash, Mule Train Road, Lost Dog Wash, Dynamite Boulevard.

North Carolina has Black Ankle Road. Or maybe it's in South Carolina. I don't remember....I saw it driving from SC to NC last weekend. Also, a sign in NC sports two town names, reading "Climax Julian." One of my trumpet students stole it with a bunch of her friends. They nearly got away with it until a campus cop saw them trying to sneak it into a dorm. The kids got academic probation and community service. lol

There's a town called Hot Coffee, which I think is in Arkansas, but not sure.

As for stores, on LaBrea there's The Way We Wore vintage clothing and James Tayloring on Sunset.

In the 90s in the small town of Auburn, IL there was a video store called "Dick Knows Videos." I didn't make that up. I swear. The store was owned by elderly people. I doubt they got it. Also, they closed at 5:00 PM because, hey, who wants to watch a video in the evening!

I get a kick out of odd pronunciations, too. Why is there a Houston (pronounced hew-stun) in Texas and a Houston (pronounced how-stun) Street in New York City?

On the drive from NY to Cape Cod, one passes a sign for the town of Mashpee, Massachusetts. :D

This street sign (taken at night with a cell phone so not a great pic) is at a corner on Staten Island, NY. I wouldn't wanna be seen standing underneath it!

I've never laughed this hard in a while, I haven't ever seen any weird street names really, the only one I think is stupid near where I go is Water Street... or the street sign near my grandparents house in the middle of the desert that says Bullshit Blvd., but they bought it themselves hehe ^.^

Some more strange street names:

I live on Penitente Lane (Penitent): which you get to by way of Las Cruces Street (the Crosses) and Kit Carson Road. Also the mountains here are called the Sangre de Cristo (blood of Christ).

The Penitentes were or are members of a Roman Catholic brotherhood in parts of the Southwest, of Native American and Hispanic origin that celebrates the Passion with rites involving fasting and self-flagellation. Sometimes reenacting the crucifixion with a chosen member.

Behind where I live is a building called a morada, an adobe building where the Penitentes practiced their rites flagellation and I have been told that one can still see remnants of blood on the walls. Outside there is a black cross, it stands about 8 feet high. Some distance towards the mountain stands an apposing cross, this one white, it is said that the distance between the two crosses is the same distance Jesus carried the cross at his crucifixion.

At night when the moon pierces the clouds above Taos Mountain and the stillness outside is broken by a mournful wail, like that of La Llorana. I tell myself that it is just the lonely cry of a solitary coyote.

For those of you who don't know Spanish, Boca Raton, in Florida, means "Mouth of the Rat." You can see why they named it in Spanish.

OK Guys, this isn't a street or town name, but I was just typing up a set list for the Springfield, IL show and Pesnya O Tebe came up as a type-o in Microsoft Word. The suggested changes to the words were Pansy and Tube.

Somehow, I don't think Pansy Tube is as pretty as Pesnya O Tebe, but it would make a great name for a Punk Band. smile.gif

Pansy Tube????? Hilarious! Politically incorrect, but hilarious!

I once tried a little experiment with Word. I typed out the entire "The Raven" by Poe, and let the dictionary make all of its "recommended" substitutions. The results were a scream. You should try it some time with some song lyrics.

In Texas there is a town called Clute... it sounds kind of gross to me.... like you could contract it or something. :-( Then of course there is Cut and Shoot, Texas!

After that you can always travel to Burnt Corn, Alabama.

When Nick and Marina were here for Christmas, I took them to Hooker Street as it is one of the most beautifully decorated streets in Springfield at Christmas and it is in our neighborhood. Also I have recently seen a street name of Possum Trot Lane here. Classy, huh?

The quaintest and easiest to remember street name I know is Y Street, Ashburton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I lived in Ashburton for most of my childhood and used Y Street every time I went shopping.

we were driving in Menlo Park (south of San Francisco, CA) and there were two places across the street from each other.
One was called "Ugly's" and the other one "Fatty Zone". We weren't really quite sure what services/products those places were offering, but their names and proximity to each other were quite entertaining smile.gif

Oldham County (Texas)
Two Guns (Arizona)
Dead River (Arizona)
Surprise (Arizona)

And.. do you know what this sign can possibly mean?
