I was wondering what connection we all have that found/brought us to Marina. I know first it's her talent, but how does our other music choices connect us to her.
5 CD's/artist I'm currently (this week)listening to .....What are yours?
1) Marina "Something of My Own" --but of course
2) Anne Deming "Naked Pictures inside" --Any of her CD's.. beware of the voice that pulls you in.
3)Pearl Jam "10" -- feeling for days gone by
4) Nicole Mckenna "Stay Awhile" I first liked her cover of "Junk" and now like the rest of her CD
5)Jane's Addiction "Nothing Shocking" (see #3)
I always let people know that they should give an ear to Marina and Anne Deming (an artist in MPLS).
Check out www.annedeming.com (http://www.annedeming.com)
Today I'm telling a person that they must hear Marina and that I have "Something of My Own" in my back back. I reach in my back-pack to pull out my Cd's this morning and my hand only hits books. I hate it when I forget my CD's.....Now I need to wait until I get home to hear the entire CD.
Later all,
Erik B

2. Dixie Chicks "Live From the Top of the World"
3. The Beatles "Revolver"
4. Fiona Apple "When the Pawn..."
5. The Ramones Tribute Album
5.5 McCartney "Back in the US Live"
5.75 KISS "Destroyer"

I learned of Marina from a friend on the Beth Hart website, and also by Nick visiting the message board over there. I came over to the website to hear song samples. The first one I listened to was 'Something Of My Own' and I just LOVED it!!! It really grabbed me right away. I am still a die-hard Beth Hart fan, but I really believe in Marina as well and believe she'll be flooding the airwaves in no time.

Ani DeFranco

Hello Marina V and Team,
I am catching insomnia with all this wonderful
and special heartfelt Komrades Emails.
I am currently listening to these 5:
1. Marina V-Something of My Own and new song: Simple Magic
2. Alicia Keys-Diary of Alicia Keys
3. Real Life Compilation 2003-www.reallifemp.com
4. Hannah Ford-Beautiful Love
5. Nurtured In Purple-N.I.P.
I know the last 3 will be hard to recognize, but they are very dear to my heart and vision of NWE MGMT and I am honored to be playing a special part in their lives to include helping them grow their audience. You can read more about these two artists and also catch Marina V's link at my site: www.nwe-management.com (http://www.nwe-management.com)
Special Shout-Out and Thank you to James, who got me to take time to listen again to Marina V.
My personal favorite is the Russian version of "Something of my Own", "Oceans" and her tribute to Paul McCartney, "That's the Way it Goes". These and all her songs have that unique signature of timeless heartfelt emotion and breakthrough.
Thank you for letting me and your Komrades "Envision, Capture and Enjoy the MOMENT" more often through your music!!!

Silver Bell, Patty Griffin...unreleased
Tales of a Librarian, Tori Amos...forgot my mittens

This is my first visit to the Komrades and this seems to be the best place to begin my posts. My last five listens:
- Jonathan Richman/Jonathan Sings
- Sam Phillips/Martinis & Bikinis
- Elvis Costello/Imperial Bedroom
- Faraway, So Close soundtrack
- Jesus and Marychain/Psychocandy (It was great of Sophia Coppola to bring this one back).
I've been playing both CDs of SOMETHING OF MY OWN here at work and I'm still going back and forth about which version of the title track I like more.
It's great reading everyone's posts - Thanks for creating this forum!
Yeah,
Thanks for reminding me Kristi. I'm also listening to Beth's new CD.

Hey man, where did you get "Origin"? Also, what is "Fallen Ring"? I never heard of it. I really dig Evanescence.. My fave new rock band in years!
Michael

James, e-bay of course. "Fallen Ring" is a PAL format [EU] DVD, but almost all computer DVD-ROMS will decode it, of their 2003 performance @ Rock Am Ring -- incredible. Amy Lee has said publicly [I have that recorded because I am a firm believer in copyright protection] that "..anyone can have "Origin" so just download it." I have never seen a download, probably because it is almost 800MB -- but it sells all the time on e-bay. I also have their 1995/98 self titled EP & the Sound Asleep EP [the pair cost me about $723.00 -- my wife mentions to me repeatedly that I spent $1,100.00 on Evanescence in two months] along with a bunch of other music & video & still can't get enough. I saw Amy Lee with the new band in Feb @ Wiltern -- Evanescence is better now then when Ben Moody was with the band! Marina should front a rock/metal band!
Michael

James, I forgot to mention that I also have the Evanescence 'Solitude EP.'

I am still trying to find a free download online. :D
I haven't seen Evanescence without Ben Moody yet, but we have to remember that there would be no Evanescence without Ben Moody.. He wrote most of the music, and Amy Lee did a lot of melodies and lyrics, although songs like "My Immortal" were all written by Ben alone. I am dying to hear their new album, whenever it comes out smile.gif

(1) Marina- Something of My Own (original version)
(1.5) - CD with Never Again & Simple Magick
(2) Robert Mirabal- Music From A painted Cave
(2.5) - Indians Indians
(3) The Grateful Dead-almost anything
(4) Brooke Ramel- Tulips Bleed
(4.5) - Make Tomorrow Up
(5) Led Zepplin- anything
(5.5)Robbie Robertson- Music for The Native American
(5.5A) - Contract from The Underworld of Redboy
Because I believe that nothing happens by chance, but that everything happens for a reason, we have all been drawn to Marina. Maybe it is something in her music that touches something deep within each of us or that she left everything she had known, family and friends, to come to the U.S. to follow her dream. How many are willing to make that kind of sacrifice? The fact that her music has affected so many, in a short time, proves there is something special about her. Also Nick deserves credit for his writing and musical input.

I would like to add one more to my list.
(6) Larisa Stow- Moment by Moment
Unfortunately I don’t think Larisa performs that much anymore. Once in a while I here she has a gig around LA. I always thought a great show would be Marnia, Brooke Ramel and Larisa. Just wishful thinking.
